PS. I am still looking for 5 more Marshals for the Riverbank Rollick on Sunday 15th January

Final Call for Riverbank Rollick – Sunday 15th January 2023

This mail is going out to all Club Members.

We are very grateful to all those Members who have already volunteered to help out on our main event of the year. We are already sold out with 425 entries.

However we are still quite short of Course Marshals and we are appealing again for Club Members to step-up and volunteer as we need to make sure our event is run safely and to our usual high standard.

Please check your name and position – note you may be on the schedule for more than one job so check carefully. This Organisation schedule is the latest V5 and please be aware this may be updated over the course of the next two weeks. A later version will be sent out as necessary.

The Course Marshals are in 6 Teams. Each Team has a designated Leader who will set-up and sign the Course. Your job is to look after the runners and clear the course after the Last Runner (Jerry Clothier) has gone by. Guidance Notes for the Course Marshals is attached Rollick 2023 Marshalls Notes.

The Lead-out Team A and the 6 Course Marshal Teams all have a position  – A1 to A9 and positions 1 to 51 shown on the Riverbank Rollick Route 2023 Map attached .

The Lead out map from the Castle School to the Start and the last Section 6 through the Hatch & Shieling School Grounds are also attached

Ros is leading two recce’s of the course on Friday 30th Dec at 08.30 from the Scout Hut opposite the Castle School and at 08.30 on Saturday 31st December.

A further opportunity to recce the course will be on the Residents Letter drop which will be on Sunday 8th January 08.30 from the Scout Hut.

Amy questions please contact Jo Plumbley or Arthur Renshaw

The Riverbank Rollick on Sunday 15th January 2023.

The Riverbank Rollick

We are getting a bit desperate for helpers on the Riverbank Rollick on Sunday 15th January.

Thanks to those who have volunteered so far.

The list below is people who helped on the Rollick last year but who we have not heard from this year. Ideally we want volunteers who can do the same job as last year.

If you are not on this list then you have either volunteered already (thank you!) or you didn’t help last year and have gone into hiding to avoid being asked and not filled in the form that Kevin has been promoting for weeks now.

At this moment we will struggle to put on a proper race up to our usual standards with the limited number of volunteers we have so please step up and help if you can….

You can e-mail me  arthur@arenshaw.co.uk or send a text to 07810 300025.

Message from Carol … Thank you very much to Kevin, Hugh, Arthur, Chris, Emma, Mark, Paul and Amel for helping Natalie and I deliver the Beginner’s Running Course over the last 2 months. (And Nathan and Sam who were available to cover if needed.) We had 16 beginners sign up, 12 of whom attended 4 or more sessions out of the 9 on offer. As usual, there was a mix of abilities and previous running experience. The group got on well together and ran in some pretty awful weather a couple of times. 3 people struggled with illness and / or injury and are keen to get started again when they are fully recovered. Some have expressed an interest in running with the club on a Thursday. Fingers crossed.

Glos League cross-country – race report, 5th November 2022

Race report written by George Evans

It’s wet and cold so it must be cross country season again! The first race of the 2022-23 series took place at a damp, windy, yet beautifully autumnal, Cirencester Park. Despite the recent heavy rain, ground conditions were an improvement on 2021 making for a faster course.

Thornbury fielded a slightly leaner turnout than 2021…perhaps because Jo Plumbley couldn’t make it, so everyone knew we’d be down on cakes.

Holding up the women’s team was Hannah Hamilton finishing in a very respectable 80th position (field of 192) with a time of 34.20.

He has more records than the KGB and Nick Langridge didn’t disappoint at Cirencester, finishing 109th in the combined Ladies and +MV65 race…only narrowly missing out on age adjusted 1st position by 3 seconds!!

The men’s race saw a field of 208 (and a lot of them looked like they could run). Top 3 from Thornbury were led in by Ben Bohane finishing in 48th (41.20) followed by Andy Wilson in 68th (42.38) and David Hobbs 83rd overall and 6th in age category (43.32). Conner Vidal-Cocker notched up a very respectable first cross-country race in 101st place with a very respectable time of 45.22.

Sweeping up the rear for Thornbury was George Evans (107th in 45:46) and a “pretty much straight off the operating table” Jim Godden (137th in 48:22). Given his only very recent return to training, Jim was looking very strong and finished 4th overall in his age category. This season see’s Jim entering the next age category (undisclosed) and based on this performance I suspect we’ll be seeing a lot more age adjusted podium positions this season….no pressure Jim 😉
