  1. RIVERBANK ROLLICK 2026 – 18th January 10:30 Start

We are now 2 months away from the Rollick, and already have 280 entries ! Many of last year’s marshals will marshal again (it shows how enjoyable it is !), but we do have a number of vacancies. Therefore, if you are available to help and didn’t help last year, please complete the form https://forms.gle/1zwpivDerbWnaqTJ7 .  We can then allocate you a task depending on where the greatest need is.

We do have a reputation of having marshals in fancy dress, so if you feel you wish to do that (it’s not mandatory), please feel free. It can be anything within reason – previous marshals have been Superman, Elvis, Clowns, Pirate, Fairy etc. and of course our infamous Mr Blobby ! Anything is great to help enthuse the runners – it really is fun to do. It’s a great thing to do and allows you to see a race from the marshals point of view. Hope to hear from you via the form. If you need to contact me direct, I am on jimgodden0@gmail.com

Jim Godden, RR Race Director.

Results

12/10 Gloucester Cross Country League – Nympsfield

Well, the League have gone over to a new results provider and after a delay because of some formatting problem some results have been issued but we can only say that they have made a complete dog’s dinner of it if not two dogs’ dinners.  What we have is the senior men mixed up with the V65+ men in order of time even though they ran completely different races over different distances with the oldies appearing very high up so the positions make no sense at all.  The women’s race has been separated out and they are in a sensible order but, unfortunately, Ros Rowland has been left out altogether.  To make up for that Chris Foley appears twice, once in the senior men’s race and once in the under 17 boys’ race.  There are no age categories showing so we don’t know who finished where in those and there are no team results.  So, yes they have made several dogs’ dinners of it.  At least the dogs will be all right.  We are sending out Nathan with his abacus to the next event.

What we do know is the order of finishing of our runners and we can estimate Ros’ time fairly closely so we do have the club championship results and standings after the first race on the Cross Country results page of the website.

3. Riverbank Rollick 2026 – 18th January

I am getting through the initial list of tasks to be completed for the Riverbank Rollick. I have emailed the Marshal Section Leaders for their confirmation of attendance, but at present we have 2 sections which need new volunteers for. These are Section 3 (Riverbank end to hill after Littleton) and Section 4 (Littleton hill to Mundy’s). These are important roles that we must have in place for the event.  The section leader role is as follows …

  1. Collect the signs for your section from the club store at Lower Morton on the Saturday before.
  2. Put out the signs in the right place – you will be given amap !
  3. Make sure marshals in your section are in place and contactable.
  4. Collect the signs after the section is finished and take them back to the store (or Castle School).

It is easier if you are also a marshal in your Section, but am sure we can move people around if need be.

If you are willing to take on this role, please email me – jimgodden0@gmail.com.

I will also be shortly sending out the general marshalling request, so hope you are all ready to sign up again !

Jim

4. Park Run of the Month

We are asking members to nominate the date and location for future park runs of the month. The date can coincide with a special event e.g. birthday or milestone e.g. 100th parkrun. The location should be no more than a 30 minute drive from Thornbury.

Please message Nathan with your suggestions.

3. Great Western Air Ambulance (GWAA) – proposed visit by TRC Members

For the 15 or so TRC Members who expressed an interest in a visit. GWAA would like to offer them an invite-only base tour. This tour offers a unique chance to discover the lifesaving work provided.

Attendees expect a tour of the airbase, learn about a typical day for their Critical Care Team, and potentially meet the crew and view the helicopter and critical care car up close. These events shed light on the charity’s operations, covering everything from lifesaving missions to the advanced equipment and interventions we provide.

GWAA have one more date on offer – 15th  October at 2PM

Please register yourself for one of the dates. It is up to you if you want to make a donation but as a Club we donated £2,050 recently.

 4. Club Championship Race – Thursday 11 September. 7pm Oldbury Sailing Club

As we are holding the Club Championship later this year we are concerned about the light and so we have decided to shorten the race to a FIVE MILER – basically the Oldbury Fun Run course in reverse plus a kilometer out from the Sailing Club and a kilometer back. With a 7pm start from the Sailing Club this should be ok for the light for all the runners around the lanes with a Finish outside the Sailing Club rather than the Anchor. This also means that Car Parking is next to the Start/Finish with no long walk back to the Club! With the cooperation of the Sailing Club we will be providing a free first drink and food for all Members attending.

Watch out for the Google Form for you to indicate whether you are intending Running or helping to Marshal on the night. Captain Moray and Chairman Arthur are organising this event so let them know if you have any questions or have any issues with the changes described above.

 5. Cross Country

  • 12th October – Nympsfield
  • 1st November – Cirencester Park

  1. Cross Country

As you bathe and swelter in another summer heat wave of glorious sunshine and drinks on the terrace you may not be thinking about it but the rain and mud of Autumn and Winter are not far off and with it the ‘such fun’ of cross country running and the fixtures are already out for the Gloucester League and here they are:-

  • 12th October – Nympsfield
  • 1st November – Cirencester Park
  • 14th December – Bath University
  • 14th February – Cheltenham

So sharpen your spikes, clean up your studs and prepare for the season.  Martyn needs some friends to run with this time to make up a whole proper team.
