1. Dave Matthews

Late this week we received the sad news of the passing of Dave Matthews.  Dave was a founder member, indeed member number 1,  of the club and one of the main movers in organising and building up the club in its early and middle years.  He was club secretary for a number of those years and very active in pushing along and participating in cross country teams and other club teams.  He initiated and ran the club’s very first web site.  He was involved in the club races, often organising the manual timing of those days.

He was encouraging to others in the participation and development of their running and will be sadly missed by those who remember him.

2. Oldbury 10 Mile Race – Volunteers Needed

We are still around 10 volunteers short for the Oldbury 10 Mile race.  If you are in the area and have any spare time at all please let Adrian Wombwell know.  All hands are useful.

3. Kinisi Run Hub Visit

Thursday 10th September Club Night – Kinisi Run Hub visit. Come early by 6:45 to club to try on Saucony road shoes – you can wear them on the run. 15% discount on the night.

4. Gloucester Cross Country League

With the sun mostly still shining and the ground hard with drought you may not be thinking of the gloriously muddy, wet, cold cross country season but the fixtures have been announced for the Gloucester Cross Country League as follows and the good news is that entries are now open:-

Saturday 31st October – Cirencester Park
Sunday 13th December – University of Bath – including County Championships

5. Park Run of the Month

Next Park Run of the month is 12th September at Thornbury – from Ashleigh.

We are asking members to nominate the date and location for future park runs of the month. The date can coincide with a special event e.g. birthday or milestone e.g. 100th parkrun. The location should be no more than a 30 minute drive from Thornbury. Please message treasurer@thornburyrunningclub.co.uk with your suggestions.

7. Winter Coaching Venue Needed

While Tuesday coaching goes on through the summer on Munday Playing Fields, the coaching team are in need of a venue for the dark nights of winter.  If you know of anywhere that might be suitable with good lighting and a lack of trip hazards then please contact Nick Williams (or any of the committee who can pass it on).  Thank you.
