  1. Dave Matthews

We recently received the sad news of the passing of Dave Matthews.  Dave was a founder member, indeed member number 1,  of the club and one of the main movers in organising and building up the club in its early and middle years.  He was club secretary for a number of those years and very active in pushing along and participating in cross country teams and other club teams.  He initiated and ran the club’s very first web site.  He was involved in the club races, often organising the manual timing of those days. He was encouraging to others in the participation and development of their running and will be sadly missed by those who remember him.

Funeral on Wednesday 23rd September mid day at St Marys Church. If you are intending going please let Arthur Renshaw know.

  1. Oldbury 10 Mile Race – Volunteers Needed

Last call for volunteers for Oldbury 10 next Sunday. We are still around 6 volunteers short for the Oldbury 10 Mile race.  If you are in the area and have any spare time at all please let Adrian Wombwell know.  All hands are useful.

Expect Hi Viz tops available on Thursday at Club.

  1. Gloucester Cross Country League

With the sun mostly still shining and the ground hard with drought you may not be thinking of the gloriously muddy, wet, cold cross country season but the fixtures have been announced for the Gloucester Cross Country League as follows and the good news is that entries are now open:-

Sunday, 18th October – Tinkley Gate, Nympsfield
Saturday 31st October – Cirencester Park
Sunday 13th December – University of Bath – including County Championships
Saturday 27th February – Pittville Park, Cheltenham

So sharpen your spikes, clean your studs, put the dates in your diary and start your preparation.

  1. Park Run of the Month

Next Park Run of the month is 12th September at Thornbury – from Ashleigh.

We are asking members to nominate the date and location for future park runs of the month. The date can coincide with a special event e.g. birthday or milestone e.g. 100th parkrun. The location should be no more than a 30 minute drive from Thornbury. Please message treasurer@thornburyrunningclub.co.uk with your suggestions.

  1. Race Directors Course For Anyone Interested In Becoming Involved.

There is a Race Director’s course at YOSC on Saturday 17th October. Information about this:
