This note is intended for all current and recent Race Directors plus any other TRC Members with expertise and/or an interest in Race planning and organisation.
Most of you know that we are a well-funded club primarily due to the income we get from the three races a year we promote. However, things are changing!
- We used to sell-out our events – this is not the case anymore and 2 of our races will only be at about 50% capacity. The Riverbank Rollick (10-ish miles mainly off road) still manages to attract nearly a full house
- For the Thornbury 10k, held in late June in Oldbury village we have had a number of issues and the current Race Director is concerned that we have a potentially unsafe finish area.
- For the Oldbury 10 mile, the former power station is being demolished later this year and we can’t use their facilities after the race his year (20th Sept)
We urgently need to find a new course, a new Race HQ and a suitable date for both the 10k and the 10 mile.(or maybe we look at a Half Marathon?)
At this stage everything is on the table but we need to get started and ideally have the basics of the two races agreed by late November (10 weeks from now)
We had a preliminary discussion at the last Committee meeting and I have been tasked with starting the process to find two replacement races.
- Send out this note to alert the Membership to the situation.
- Arrange an initial meeting of all interested parties – Thursday 24th September Swan 21:00
- Create a small group of Members to set out the principles of what we need to do and a timetable plus an action plan.
- Create two small groups, including Race Directors, to organise the two races in 2027.
