  1. For TRC Members with expertise and/or an interest in Race Planning & Organisation.

Hopefully you all have all seen the note about this that I sent out by e-mail last week. We need as many Members as possible to get involved and bring their ideas for our two races (10 mile & 10km)

The location & time of the meeting on Thursday have changed. It is now scheduled for 20:30 in the Severnside Suite – the room we use on Club Night.  We have a maximum of 45 minutes to set some ground rules on how we are going to take this forward.

  1. Oldbury 10 Mile Race

Well done and thanks to all the Marshals and other helpers on the day. We have had some very positive comments from some of the runners complimenting us on the Race organisation. The Race had no incidents and was won by Matt Livingstone Bristol & West in 55:53. First female was Megan Parry from San Domenico RC in 1:08:53. Race Director Adrian will be sending around his Race Report in the next few days

Goodbye Oldbury Power Station – you have been good to us or over 25 years!

  1. Gloucester Cross Country League

With the sun mostly still shining you may not be thinking of the gloriously muddy, wet, cold cross country season but the fixtures have been announced for the Gloucester Cross Country League as follows and the good news is that entries are now open:-

Sunday, 18th October – Tinkley Gate, Nympsfield
Saturday 31st October – Cirencester Park
Sunday 13th December – University of Bath – including County Championships
Saturday 27th February – Pittville Park, Cheltenham

So sharpen your spikes, clean your studs, put the dates in your diary and start your preparation.

Entries now open  – SportSoft Entries & Results

  1. Park Run of the Month

We are asking members to nominate the date and location for future park runs of the month. The date can coincide with a special event e.g. birthday or milestone e.g. 100th parkrun. The location should be no more than a 30 minute drive from Thornbury. Please message treasurer@thornburyrunningclub.co.uk with your suggestions.

  1. Race Directors Course For Anyone Interested In Becoming Involved.

There is a Race Director’s course at YOSC on Saturday 17th October. Information about this:

“As a service to race organisers, RunEvents has developed a Race Director course, covering the key areas of knowledge and expertise needed by race organisers. The course combines information given out through presentations along with group activities. Attendance is voluntary and not assessed. A certificate of attendance is issued to attendees along with the course material. The content includes:

  • Legal and administrative issues.
  • Venue and course design.
  • Briefing marshals and stewards.
  • Health and Safety – Event Risk Assessment.
  • Role of Local Authority and Highways.
  • Producing an Event Plan” [End of Quote]

Booking via EA website, cost £80-00. This is suitable for Road, XC, Trails etc. Organisers, both active and prospective candidates. There are other dates available, but not nearby. For more details visit
