- Hi-Viz tops and Head Torches
For safety reasons we would like everyone to wear Hi-Viz tops and carry a head torch. (we usually have a few spares on Club night if you forget you hi-viz top.)
- TRC’s last race – Oldbury 10 mile: Sunday 22nd September
The forecast was for rain, with a chance of thunderstorms – a few people had contacted us to see if we were going ahead, I have a feeling they didn’t get the answer they wanted…
Four of us (Arthur, Nick L, Pete and myself), with essential support from Nathan, had spent several weeks planning every detail (apart from the ones Arthur had told me about but I forgot!) but it was still a last minute rush to get everything in the right place on time.It was quite a relief to see the first runners turning up, and then it was the usual pre run scene, safety pins, toilet queues, comparing injuries, etc.
Probably not everyone realises there’s a magic barn where everything you could possibly need to put on a race is stored. But to get to the barn you have to first find it, then climb over a gate and through a cobwebby wire fence. A What’s app from John after collecting his signs (he kindly volunteered to be leader for the first section) made me smile, it read ‘mission accomplished’!
Meanwhile, out on the course, everyone was getting set up, despite the rain. A shout out to the section leaders, John, Moray and Ros, thanks very much for sorting out your stretch of the course!
Time for me to grab the loud hailer, give the pre race briefing and see the runners off. We had 295 people, not bad given the weather. And the race had sold out (400 entrants), securing funds for future events! It’s good to see the messages coming in to say first runners through 1, 2, 3… and the sweep vehicle picking up the pieces shortly afterwards. No major issues on the course, thankfully, and just time for the people at HQ to get the finish finished (maybe I could have worded that better).
Some incredible times posted, the winner was Johnny Suttle with a time of 53:48 and first lady was Deborah Bruce with a time of 58:15. TRC winners were Phil Blackburn (57:09) and Jo Plumbley (1:12:55) – well done both! Everyone crossing the line seemed happy with the event and their performance, and especially with the great support from the marshal!
A huge thankyou to all those who helped in advance or on the day, whether out on the course or at HQ, it really did take a lot of work from many people to run the event. Now I just have to separate 250 banana skins from 1000 paper cups… Race Director Adrian Wombwell
- Run & Rehydrate – The Swan Thursday 7th November 20:15 – 22:30
We usually do these in the Summer so this will be a test of going out for a normal Thursday night run but then showering at the Leisure centre and then going to the Swan on the High Street for food and drink at about 20:15. The food at 21:00 will be chilli with garlic bread (including a vegetarian chili option) with first drink all paid for by the Club. All Members are invited. Watch out for the Google form to confirm your attendance – we need to know numbers (we are expecting about 60 of you to turn up)
Note: we can’t use the Leisure Centre before our run so turn up in the top cark at 19:00 ready to run in your usual groups. We can use the showers & changing after we return.
