  1. Are We Nearly There?

The number of Club members (and their non-member partners!) signing up to support the Club through marshalling at the Riverbank Rollick continues to grow, thank you. I will get back to all volunteers once I have enough people to allocate roles, please save the date – Sunday 14th January. We still need more marshals and have yet to hear from a great many members. This year we are implementing a race ‘cut off time’ which should reduce the time people are required to marshal for. It only takes 60 seconds to sign up and join the team. I would like to have all marshal positions sorted by the end of November please, as there is a lot to do in the final countdown to the event. Marshalling is fun and allows the Club to fund events – pizza, drinks, chilli, XC, CWR etc. We need marshals to run this event safely and not to lose any runners! Thanks again. ->  RR Link for everyone

  1. Riverbank Rollick

A message from the Race Director.  Thank you to the 37 people who have already volunteered to marshal, we are well on the way to the 70 we need. We have 173 members and have so far received 39 responses, please can everyone respond, even if you are not available on the date as this really helps with planning. It only takes 60 seconds and with one list of volunteers I can create a mail merge to send out instructions. Would like to have all the marshal positions sorted by the end of November please. Please remember we need marshals to run this event safely and not to lose any runners! Marshalling is fun and allows the Club to run the fun events – pizza, drinks, chilli etc. Thanks again. ->  RR Link for everyone

At last week’s Committee Meeting it was decided to maintain the current level of Membership fees for the next Club year 2024/5. England Athletics fees would continue to be subsidised and the subsidy would be increased to £9 per Member (leaving Members to pay £10 of the £19 EA fees)

  1. Rollick Gets Bigger – a message from Race Director Kevin Wood.

For 2024 we have expanded the Rollick entries to 450 and need your help to run the events safely and effectively, the Rollick needs a lot of marshals due to the nature of the course. Marshalling is also fun! The cake stall will be run this year by and for Friends of Castle School, so everyone in the Club can marshal the course.

Each year we organise three events from which we plan to make a surplus to fund. If you have eaten pizza and had a drink at ‘Run & Rehydrate’, had your X-Country entry paid, had your EA membership subsidised, had a % T-shirt etc you have benefited from this.

Please can everyone reply using the link below so we know who has seen this request and can follow up with anyone who has not responded. Thank you in anticipation for volunteering to marshal. RR’24 Call for Marshals

  1. Club Night Runs in the dark

As it is now getting dark when we return from our Thursday run we strongly recommend that all runners and walkers wear a Hi Viz top and carry a head torch. Everyone please take extra care when running alongside and/or crossing roads and make sure you can be seen by car drivers.

Nathan is collating a guide for our new members of light torches “recommended by our members” If you’re happy with what you are using and feel it is worthy of a recommendation then please send an email with make and model to Treasurer@thornburyrunningclub.co.uk We will also use the feedback to get some club “spares” for our members to trial.

  1. TRC’s Oldbury 10 Mile road Race

Thanks to Race Director Emma Pritchard and everybody who helped with the 10 Mile race. Fortunately, the rain held off until most of the runners were back at the Finish. We had a sell-out 400 entries but we had a 25% no-show with only 300 runners getting a finish time. TRC Members finishing times are shown above.

  1. Basic First Aid & CPR for runners – Monday 25th September

It is about time we revisited what to do when you are out running and someone nearby collapses. Clare Watt will lead an evening session on Monday 25th Sept in our usual room – Severnside Suite from 19.00-21.00.  All Members are welcome to come along. It just may save somebodies life if you know how to do CPR and give basic first aid.

  1. Thornbury 10k – Thursday 27th June 2024

We have at least one person who has volunteered to join a small group to organise next years Thornbury 10k. We are still looking for more volunteers – If you are interested in getting involved in a small team then please see Arthur Renshaw. Getting involved early, say by December, makes the whole job so much easier and there is plenty of experienced support around so you would not be left on your own.
