I feel it my duty to note with all these foreign and distant half marathons that you don’t have to travel that far to do one, other ones more local are available. (e.g. Stroud in just 4 weeks)

1. Oldbury 10 Mile Race report from Race Director Adrian Wombwell

Last Sunday morning, in perfect weather, 194 eager runners lined up ready to tackle the final, farewell Oldbury 10 miler…

Some results:

In 1st place, in an impressive 55:53, was Matt Livingstone from Bristol & West AC.
He was followed in by Robert Farley (Avon Tempo, 56:11) and Jack Richardson (Clevedon AC, 56:39).

For the ladies, it was
1st, Megan Parry, San Domenico RC, 1:08:54
2nd, Ali Vaz, Bristol & West AC, 1:11:07
3rd, Rachel Liston, Westbury Harriers, 1:12:26

And well done to the six Thornbury runners:
Ollie Cross
Peter Cable
Paul Saville
Andrew Downes
Ryan Moon
Catherine Dack

The event went remarkably smoothly, with no injuries or mishaps and lots of happy runners! Just to add a little last minute stress, we found out just before the race that there was also a horse riding event on the same day that would cross our route at a couple of points, but in the end we didn’t have any problems.

The feedback on the marshals and the organisation was all very positive, so a huge thanks and well done to everyone who helped out! Having friendly, helpful marshals makes a massive difference to the runners’ enjoyment of the race.

I think the coffee van and the provision of the massages by Thornbury Clinic were appreciated and helped to give the occasion a real buzz.

I would like to say a big thankyou to Peter Cable, who organised a lot of the key things, and also Matt Johnstone, who provided critical support (and I appreciated his clarity in cutting to the chase on a couple of topics I was circling around, with questions like “do you want me to just do it?”!!) Also Arthur for his tireless activity dealing with the power station, the letter drop, the kit store, etc etc.

Also special thanks to those who roped their family members into helping… it turns out it takes a village to put on a race!

So, just once more, thanks very much to everyone who contributed to the successful running of the event. And next year, we look forward to something new…

Kind regards,
Adrian

2. Gloucester Cross Country League

It’s Cross Country.  It’s coming up.  One of the good things about cross country is that it is one of the few occasions when  we can race as a team and cheer each other on as the men’s and women’s races are separate but we need 6 for a men’s team and 3 for a women’s team and be present for all 4 events to count in the end of season rankings so GET YOUR ENTRIES IN NOW – entries are now open:-

Sunday, 18th October – Tinkley Gate, Nympsfield
Saturday 31st October – Cirencester Park
Sunday 13th December – University of Bath – including County Championships
Saturday 27th February – Pittville Park, Cheltenham

So sharpen your spikes, clean your studs, put the dates in your diary and start your preparation.

Entries now open  – SportSoft Entries & Results

3. New Runners course – Wednesdays 14th Oct to 2nd Dec

If you want to be a Beginner’s Champion:

Without the support of our beginner’s champions this course could not go ahead. We need 2 or 3 people each week to ensure the participation and safety of the beginners. If you can please help, even for just 1 week, please fill in the google form to let me know which dates you can do and I will sort out the rota.
Without your help it is not possible to run the course. Participants are always very grateful for the support (as am I!)  https://forms.gle/Wv9sawnMM9R5Eok16

Any questions please speak to Carol Mosses carol.mosses@hotmail.co.uk
