ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2020

The final event of the curtailed and changed dates Road Race Championships took place at the Chippenham Shortest (Longest) Day 10K half muddy trail race on Sunday.  2 runners lucky enough to live in Tier 2 areas took part in the actual race while 2 others took the virtual option.  Results and standings can be found on the results page.

There will be no awards for the 2020 season but results for these races can be brought forward to count as part of the 2021 championship whenever that might resume.

TRC Club Nights 06/10/20 & 08/10/20

The information below refers to both Tuesday and Thursday night Club runs:

* As we are meeting outside all runs will start promptly at 7:00pm. Please be there in the top car park for 6.55pm

* Please make sure your name is registered for Track and Trace.

* The top car park is marked out with the usual Thursday Group names 7 min, 8 min, 9 min, 11 min, 5k, & Walkers and for Tuesday marked with Efforts, steady 5k and fastish 5k. Please go directly to your area once you have been registered.

* Once you have a group together and a Leader then have your Group photo taken then go.

Please make sure that your attendance has been registered on the Track and Trace list each week at each session, Tuesday and Thursday. As requested everyone is arriving just a few minutes before run time, which puts pressure on the person with the clipboard and list. Please avoid crowding around them whilst also ensuring your attendance has been acknowledged. The photographs we use as back up for the attendance list.

Please remember that by attending you are confirming that within the last 14 days you have NOT:

• Experienced a new cough that you cannot attribute to another health condition?

1. Run Group Sizes
We are back to Groups of 6 on a Thursday Club Night & on a Tuesday Efforts Night for a few weeks at least or until the Government or England Athletics issue further directives. If you intend cutting short your run or leaving your group for any other reason please make sure your Group Leader is fully aware.

2. TRC inside the Leisure Centre
We intend to continue to meet outside in the top car park for the foreseeable future but we have come to an agreement with the Leisure Centre to retain access to our old room, the Filnore Suite, on a Thursday night should we wish to get back to being able to use it. Don’t forget we have permission to use the toilets in the Leisure Centre.

3. AGM, renewal of Membership & annual subs
We will have the postponed AGM for 2020/21 on Tuesday 20th October at 20.00 by Zoom and open to all Members. The Club is purchasing a Zoom Account in advance of the AGM so there is no limit on numbers attending. We will be sending out more information on the AGM next week but if you have any issues you would like to raise or questions in advance please send them to the Secretary Nigel Hale (nigelhale@blueyonder.co.uk) NB. There will still be ‘efforts’ on Tuesday 20th Oct starting at the earlier time of 18.30

Last Tuesday the Committee voted unanimously to forgo the deferred TRC Membership Fees for 2020/21. ie. You will not pay any TRC fees for this year! The next TRC Membership renewal will be from 1 April 2021. For those Members where the Club paid the England Athletics (EA) fees for 2020/21 in advance we expect those Members to repay the Club the £10 subsidised fee (Full EA fees are £15 per person). The Membership Secretary will be in touch directly with all Members with more details on this issue.

4. Race Cancellation – the Riverbank Rollick.
In common with all of the other similar off-road events in the locality (Doynton, Dursly, Grizzly etc) we have had to make the awful decision to cancel the Riverbank Rollick that was scheduled for Sunday 10th January 2021. This means we have had to cancel our three main events of the year which has severely reduced our income There will be more on this in the next few weeks.

Dave Beard and a few other Committee Members are exploring the possibility of holding a virtual off road event in 2021. If you have any ideas on this please speak to any Committee Member.

5. London Marathon (Virtual) – Sunday 4th October
Many congratulations to all the TRC Members doing the full 26.2 miles today. Despite the wind and rain you all finished and it was good to see a lot of our Members were also out there braving the conditions and helping get them round! Times below are as given or from the Official Timing.

Mark West 3.46.52
Kevin Wood 4.04.35 PB first marathon
Sonya Bryson 4.14.23 PB
Kevin Cundy 4.16.37
Ian Evans (same as Sonya/Kevin?)
Mike Bennewitz 4.55.00 PB first marathon
Malc Carr 5.11.20
Magda Johnson 6.53.55
Paul Reeves no time but finished.

That’s all for this week. If you have anything to add or any suggestions or announcements please send by e-mail to trc@rensh.idps.co.uk

TRC Virtual Club Night 14/05/20

The Government have relaxed some of the rules about ‘going out’ although things are quite ambiguous and seem to be left up to your own interpretation. There has been no change in the official advice from England Athletics – EA have cancelled all activities until 31st May and all Competition until the end of June.

The latest statement by the CEO of England Athletics is being sent as a separate e-mail as it is quite long and to keep it separate from the day to day stuff.

What is clear is that all local and national events are cancelled and there is no sign of when we might get back to racing. We can’t meet or go for a run as a Group and the Leisure Centre is still closed until further notice.

Apparently, the official line is that you can now go for a run with one other person as long as you stay 2 metres apart and shout! And you can go open water swimming if you like cold water. (The Trench is open but Cromhall Quarry is still closed)
