4. Great Western Air Ambulance (GWAA) – proposed visit by TRC Members

For the 15 or so TRC Members who expressed an interest in a visit. GWAA would like to offer them an invite-only base tour. This tour offers a unique chance to discover the lifesaving work provided.

Attendees expect a tour of the airbase, learn about a typical day for their Critical Care Team, and potentially meet the crew and view the helicopter and critical care car up close. These events shed light on the charity’s operations, covering everything from lifesaving missions to the advanced equipment and interventions we provide.

GWAA have one more date on offer – 15th  October at 2PM

Please register yourself for one of the dates. It is up to you if you want to make a donation but as a Club we donated £2,050 recently.

 5. Cross Country

If the promise of a free waterproof duffel bag with “Thornbury Running Club” printed it isn’t enough incentive for you to do cross country you can also get free entry to the race as well.  As cross country is a team the club will reimburse the entry for anyone who turns up and takes part in the race.  So that’s a free waterproof duffel bag and a free race in a team.  What are you waiting for?  Here are the dates to join in:-

  • 12th October – Nympsfield
  • 1st November – Cirencester Park
  • 14th December – Bath University
  • 14th February – Cheltenham

Members taking part in 3+ cross country events in a season will be given a bag for free and those who do one or two events allowed to purchase at a discount.

6. Kevin Arnold’s ‘Military Versus Cancer’ Charity Event

I’m taking part in a charity event next month – this is the ‘Military Versus Cancer’ – John O’Groats to Lands’ End gun pull. This is a 9-week event – which started today in Scotland at 0615 and aims to reach Pitlochry on Friday. My week is between Hereford & Bridgewater.

https://www.militaryvscancer.com/field-gun-pull-september-2025/

“ Commencing 1st September, I will be part of an extraordinary challenge—pulling a Boer War Field Gun over 1,000 miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End in support of Military vs Cancer.

We are doing this to raise funds for serving personnel, veterans, and their families affected by cancer. It’s a cause that means so much to all of us, and every mile we pull is a step toward providing vital support when it is needed most. It’s going to be tough. It’s going to be emotional. But with your help, it will be worth every step.”

Please sponsor me if you can – every donation counts, big or small.

I would like to raise £100 for each day I’m taking part and if I can start now, that is not a huge task. Please remember, what we do is supporting serving personnel, veterans, and their families affected by cancer, so every pound raised really helps.

Thank you, Kevin
