Back Injury and Pilates, by Kevin W.

Like many people I have been suffering with back problems for years. I have been X-rayed, examined and scanned to find a cause and have tried physiotherapy, osteopathy, ibuprofen (lots) and acupuncture to try and manage it. I also tried Pilates, but found the sessions at the leisure centre full of people who knew how to do it! I was lost in a sea of 30-40 people and had no idea if I was doing it right or not, and the instructor was hopelessly outnumbered to offer any 1:1 advice. So, 8 weeks ago I started a specific ‘Pilates Course for People with Back Pain’ in Thornbury. The course combines Pilates moves and corrective exercise techniques to reduce stress on my back and to train the abdominal and back muscles that support the spine. As well as getting help and 1:1 advice during the sessions, I received a comprehensive ‘Back-Care Pilates Guide’ that provided details of exercises that I could do at home. I am feeling real benefits and wanted to let everyone know that the next course  starts on April 16th (Monday mornings 10:30-11:30 at CTK social Club in Thornbury) and April 17th (Tuesday evenings 6:00-7:00pm at St Helens Church in Alveston) and run for 12 weeks. Places cost £150 and are limited to 8 people per course.
