Thornbury Running Club is supporting both Castle and Marlwood schools by providing equipment to their PE departments. The running club has provided flags to the schools to help them with marshalling of events. Jo Williams, PE Teacher at Castle School said “With our current financial situation, we are very grateful to receive items that can be used in our department to improve student engagement and the presentation of our events e.g. Inter-house Athletics, Inter-school Cross Country. Running and Athletics is thriving in our school, to have links with local clubs is a huge benefit to our students and our school“. The flags were presented this week to both schools and Matt Richards, PE Teacher at Marlwood commented, “as a school with low funding we just cannot afford items such as these. When students see that we are investing in them, they naturally invest more time into the activity. Thank you so much to TRC for their generosity, it is greatly appreciated.”
Kevin wood, from Thornbury Running Club in presenting the banners, said “As a club, we know how important running is to both mental and physical health. We want to encourage the schools to get as many pupils as possible into the running habit”. The club will also be supporting the schools running award later in the year. Thornbury Running Club has over 200 hundred members ranging from beginners to improvers to competitive runners.
