Thornbury Running Club’s Mike Bennewitz set himself the ambitious challenge of completing a half marathon race every month in 2019. First on the list was Gloucester Half Marathon on 20th January and he was joined on the start line by club mate Rachel Murphy. Mike finished in 440th position overall and 6th in the 60-69 age category in a time of 1 hour 57:42 mins. Rachel was using this race as part of her preparation for Barcelona marathon in March and finished in 639th in 2 hours 19:03 mins.
In other results, Kevin Arnold took part in the Gloucester 10 mile road race earlier in the month. The race became marred in confusion after many of the runners were wrongly directed on the course and the lead runners only competed 8 miles. Kevin and many of the runners behind the leading pack were directed back on to the correct course and he finished the 10 miles plus a little extra in 138th place in 1 hour 21:16 mins.
David Palmer recorded his 100th parkrun on home soil in Thornbury in 29:47 mins. Paul Thomas was the first TRC runner to complete the course and 2nd finisher in 20:54 mins, followed by Nick Williams in 23:56 mins, Angela Bushell 26:15 mins, Brian Godsman 28:00 mins, Karen Carr 29:08 mins, David Palmer 29:47 mins, Eve Slater 34:17 mins and Anne Palmer in 34:28 mins.
Laura Orna was 2nd woman to finish at Chipping Sodbury in 20:50 mins, followed by Chris Lee in a new personal best on this course of 27:44 mins, Christopher Pritchard 27:55 mins and Pamela MacLeod in 32:39 mins. Ian Shepherd ran Wepre parkrun in 29:03 mins.
