Angela Bushell has been one of Thornbury RC’s most prolific racers and an active member on the club’s committee. Angela and her partner Brian Godsman, who Angela recruited to the club, are setting sail and relocating to Sweden, but before she left she naturally found the time for one more on 16th June. Angela and clubmate Mike Bennewitz travelled to Somerset for the Cheddar Challenge, an off-road half marathon along the famous gorge and surrounding hilly countryside. Angela finished in 183rd place in 2 hours 48:55 mins, followed by Mike in 207th in 2 hours 56:09 mins.
The Chippenham 10k attracts a big field of 840 runners, which starts and finishes in the town, but is mostly ran on grass, gravel and along railway paths. Paul Harrod has been in very consistent form this year, completing several 10k around the 40 min mark. Paul coped well in the humid conditions on the night and finished in 40:02 mins in 28th place overall. Jon Welsh was the next TRC finisher in 320th place in 54:10 mins, followed by Janet Gaze 689th in 1 hour 7:40 mins and Carol Mosses 820th in 1 hour 20:53 mins.
The Festival “Beer and Banger” 10k in Nailsea promises a quick 10k followed by a “gourmet sausage in a bun and a pint” if the runner wishes to indulge in some post-race refuelling. Paul Saville was the sole TRC runner who was enticed by this offer of running and gourmet fare and he finished in 34th place overall in 42:36 mins.
Henry Orna was the first TRC finisher at Thornbury parkrun in 19:28 mins, followed by Ben Foss in a new unofficial PB of 20:15 mins, Paul Saville 21:14 mins, Mike Bennewitz 24:57 mins, Peter Blenkiron 26:20 mins, Jeremy Clothier in a new PB of 26:23 mins, Michael Owen 26:39 mins, Angela Bushell 27:31 mins, Hilary Lee -29:06 mins, Ian Shepherd 29:47 mins, Mel Lloyd 31:28 mins, Nigel Hale 31:36 mins and Brian Godsman 38:39 mins.
Other TRC parkrun results included a 21:45 mins run in Chipping Sodbury from Chris Dawes, Dylan Roberts ran a swift 18:08 mins on Severn Bridge and was followed by David Beard in 30:49 mins. At Pomphrey Hill, the runners were encouraged to wear their club colours and Kevin Wood and Chris Lee duly obliged, Kevin ran 23:34 mins and Chris finished in 27:25 mins.
