Thornbury Running Club’s Mike Bennewitz set out with a goal of completing at least one half marathon every month in 2019 and his mission was duly completed when he finished the Nottingham Christmas Half Marathon on Sunday. Mike’s monthly racing odyssey included races abroad in America and Germany, road races, a fell race in the Cheddar hills, multi-terrain routes and one alongside the River Thames. As befitting a retired Engineer, Mike’s times were consistent and were improving as the year wore on. Sunday’s race in Nottingham on a flat tarmac course was his 14th half marathon of the year and Mike finished in 285th in 1 hour 55:08 mins.
Thornbury’s parkrun results included a 20:22 mins run from Garry Slater in Chipping Sodbury, followed by a good run from Colette Jackson in 22:12 mins, Christopher Pritchard 27:16 mins, Karen Carr 27:38 mins, Mel Lloyd 29:25 mins and Carol Mosses 42:00 mins. Chris Lee ran 29:02 in Pomphrey Hill, Brian Godsman finished Skatas in 25:13 mins, and there were 3 TRC runners on Severn Bridge. Adam Frontczak ran 19:58 mins, Kevin Arnold was next in 21:29 mins, followed by Roger Glew in 24:32 mins.
Well done to Hannah Hamilton who was 2nd Avon lady in the Tri Counties Cross-Country Championship at Bath University on a very cold Sunday afternoon. Official results have not been published at the time of writing so hers and Jim Godden’s times, the only TRC runners present on the day, have not been confirmed. Hannah has qualified to represent the Avon Team in the South West Cross-Country Championships in Yeovil in early January.
