Thornbury’s women were well represented at Tewkesbury Half Marathon on Sunday. On a good course for fast times, Jodie Haines broke the 2 hour barrier with an excellent effort, finishing 330th overall and 61st women in 1 hour 53:43 mins. Rachael Underwood and Rachel Huke crossed the line together in 674th and 675th place overall and 241st and 242nd woman, respectively, in 2 hours 18:42 mins. Katie Dent was next in 776th overall and 308th woman in 2 hours 35:42 mins and Cathy Watkins made a welcome return to long-distance racing and finished in 800th place overall and 326th woman in 2 hours 40:53 mins.
Stroud 10k started in the town centre before heading off-road into the Cotswold hills. Due to some lacklustre course marking, Mike Bennewitz and several of his fellow runners found themselves in no man’s land and searching for the course. Thanks to a kindly runner from Cirencester with a keen sense of direction, Mike got back on track and finished in 16th overall and 3rd in the MV60 with a time of 1 hour 07:34 mins.
A couple of results which escaped last week’s report was Julie Taylor and Pamela MacLeod in the Bristol 10k. Julie finished in 7964th place in 1 hour 6:44 mins and Pamela finished her first 10k in 9148th place 1 hour 13:52 mins.
At Two Tunnels running festival in Bath on Sunday, Elizabeth Dix ran in the 10k race and finished in 308th place in 59:14 mins.
On Saturday, the top 10 finishers at Thornbury parkrun all recorded personal bests. Thornbury RC’s top runner was Henry Orna, who finished in 2nd place in 19:02 mins. Colette Jackson was next in 23:21 mins, followed by Ian Shepherd 24:54 mins, Chris Lee 26:13 mins, Martin Smith 26:34 mins, Jeremy Clothier 27:10 mins, Hilary Lee 28:25 mins, Anne Palmer 34:07 mins, Carol Mosses 39:15 mins and Rebecca Twyman 49:56 mins.
At Wotton parkrun, Paul Saville ran a new personal best in 20:51 mins and Chris Dawes ran the Somerdale Pavillion parkrun course in Keynsham for the first time in 22:01 mins.
