2021 Result
The 2021 run was hosted by Chepstow Harriers on Tuesday 17th August. On a sunny but breezy evening the route took 110 runners five miles across the old Severn bridge. Starting from Chepstow on the down river side, crossing over the M48 on the foot bridge (where the toll boths once stood) and back across the bridge on the up river side.
The result was a close finish with Chepstow on 3087 points and Thornbury 3018 points. The 26 Chepstow ladies scored 734 points to the 23 Thornbury ladies score of 491. There were 31 Thornbury men who scored 1056 points and 30 Chepstow men with 835 points.
Many thanks to the event organisers and the marshals/ helpers. You can see the detailed results at this link.
2013 Result
Thornbury (well Oldbury) was the venue for the 2013 race. The race followed the route of the 2011 race along the river bank. Thornbury did win the race for the most members. Thornbury had 51 runners. For an away fixture Chepstow did have a great turn-out of 50 runners. Unfortunately, Cheptsow’s 50 runners did manage to win the match by 2653 points to 2498. Food and drink were enjoyed by both teams in the Anchor after the race
2012 Result
It was back to Chepstow for the 2012 race on a mild evening, 30th May. Chepstow, clearly rattled by our performance in 2011 had collected all their (grand)sons and (grand)daughters to make-up numbers, but they need not have worried! Sadly Thornbury was only able to field 26 runners and Chepstow had a landslide victory. Celebrations or a drowning of sorrows were held at the Leisure Centre where home-made cake was much appreciated.
2011 Result
Thursday June 9, 2011 saw a mass of runners milling around the Anchor at Oldbury-on-Severn. It was a great turn-out from both Clubs. The route was the 5km route. starting & finishing on the Sailing Club path, partly on tarmac path, partly riverbank path north out to the Power Station & then back. The Anchor laid-on a good spread afterwards with the weather being kind enough for us to stay outside. Thornbury RC managed to claim the winners’ shield – by one point!
2010 Results
It was a great night out – lovely weather, excellent organisation, and a great turnout with 47 runners (exactly!) from each club. TRC were unfortunately pipped to the post in the final countdown – Chepstow 2264 points, Thornbury 2201 points, with the difference of 63 points being the equivalent of a middle-of-the field runner. However, we can congratulate ourselves on matching up so well to a club as good as Chepstow…..and take our revenge next year when we organise the event!
Thornbury provided the winner – Paul Horsfall in a speedy 16min 38sec.
