The final race of the season took place at Penlan Leisure Centre, Brecon in (almost) warm sunshine! The ladies’ race was much earlier than the men’s and the girls travelled together intending leaving soon after they had finished, but found themselves sitting round in the sun, then watching most of the men finish before the long drive home.
Jo P had another good run finishing 46th and gaining maximum Club Championship points for the race making her the season Club Champion, one point ahead of Emma. Ros was next, consistent as ever, taking the Age Adjusted championship with a maximum of 150 points for the six races to count. Nicky, who with hubby Andi have been a great addition to the Teams was some way ahead of Liz and Judy.
In the men’s race the huge turnout of 13 was reduced to 12 when Jim G, already Club Age Adjusted Champion, dropped-out rather than cause further injury. Martyn Green was first Thornbury to finish, followed by Rob W who was determined to beat Andi Davies who had already won the Club Championship regardless of the day’s result. Special mention must be made of Mike Willis who will be a very serious contender for Age-Adjusted champion next year if he maintains his speed and can attend enough races. Great to see him back with us after several years break!
Now there’s the matter of our performance within the two Leagues. Pete will explain it all to anyone who asks: we thought the men were eligible for promotion back to Division 1 but it hasn’t happened. Miscalculation probably. However, the Ladies remain in their Division 1. The Over 60s men did well to come 2nd at Gwent, and all-in-all, good turnouts for most races meant a successful and enjoyable year.
