Last week’s and this week’s TRC write-up

This week’s results:

There were 21 Thornbury runners spread far and wide in 8 different parkruns on Saturday 1st February

274 runners descended on Berkeley for the first Berkeley Green parkrun and amongst the local club runners and tourists there was a group of 10 TRC athletes. Ian Hoffman was the first TRC runner to finish in 19:56 mins, followed by Paul Thomas 20:43 mins, Roger Glew 23:08 mins, Chris Foley 25:05 mins, David Palmer 26:14 mins, Malcolm Carr 26:38 mins, Janet Gaze 29:16 mins, Richard Illingworth 31:33 mins, Anne Palmer 34:57 mins and Sue Pascoe 40:14 mins.

Jim Godden ran 20:36 mins on a congested Chipping Sodbury course, followed by Matt Johnstone in 24:14 mins. Nick Langridge ran 23:24 mins in Marple and Mike Bennewitz finished Weymouth in 25:25 mins. On one of the most gruelling parkrun courses around, Judy Mills finished the hilly Lyme Park course in Cheshire East in 30:35 mins.

Brian Godsman ran Skatas in 25:36 mins and Mark West ran Tamar Trails in 21:38 mins. On Severn Bridge, Kevin Arnold was the first TRC finisher in 23:32 mins, followed by Anne Green 29:40 mins, Ross Phillips 34:33 mins and Terry Robinson 47:35 mins.

Kevin Arnold runs in the colours of Thornbury RC and the 104th Regiment in the Royal Artillery. On 22nd January, it was the latter team he represented at the Royal Artillery Cross Country Championships on the training grounds of Royal Regiment of Artillery in Larkhill, Wiltshire. The championships were decided on a 5.8-mile course through woods, muddy tank tracks and the rolling terrain of Salisbury Plain. Kevin proudly captained his team to 1st place in Army Reserve Artillery Regiment for the second year in a row.

Elsewhere, there were 16 Thornbury runners out on the parkrun courses on Saturday. Garry Slater continues to get closer to breaking the 20 mins barrier, after a 2-year parkrun hiatus, with a 20:04 mins effort. Other results on the day included Matt Johnstone 19:48 mins, Chris Foley 25:51 mins, Christopher Pritchard 26:25 mins, David Palmer 27:28 mins and Anne Palmer 55:42 mins.

John Grimey ran 36:13 mins at Burham and Highbridge, Brian Godsman ran 24:57 mins at Skatas and Andrew Darton returned from a layoff with an encouraging 19:56 mins in Mallards Pike.

On Severn Bridge, Kevin Arnold was the first TRC finisher in 22:10 mins, followed by Roger Glew 24:08 mins, Colette Jackson 25:15 mins, Tom Witherbed 27:02 mins and Ann Green 28:39 mins. Rebecca Twyman was also returning to action after an injury layoff and ran 38:27 mins on the same course.
