Hot weather greeted the sea of runners and their enthusiastic supporters who pounded through the city centre streets for Bristol Half Marathon on Sunday. Dylan Roberts led the 4 Thornbury runners in 151st place overall out of over 10,000 runners in 1 hour 24:37 mins. Chris Lee was next in 3,988th place in 2 hours 7:22 mins, followed by Simon Groves in 2 hours 34:37 mins. Rachel Murphy was running her second half marathon in the space of as many weekends after completing the Great North Run last Sunday. Rachel saved her best run for her home race, finishing 6 minutes faster than last weekend in 6,035th place in 2 hours 35:41 mins.
Elsewhere, TRC’s parkrun results included a 28:37 mins effort from Duncan Pauly in Forest of Dean. On Thornbury course, Henry Orna was the third to finish in 20:25 mins, followed by Mike Poad in a new personal best of 20:55 mins, followed by Mike Bennewitz 24:44 mins, Malcolm Carr 26:44 mins, Michael Owen 27:32 mins, Mel Lloyd new personal best of 29:23 mins, John Mann 31:36 mins, Rebecca Twyman 34:10 mins and Carol Mosses 39:13 mins.
At Chipping Sodbury, Garry Slater ran 20:34 mins, next was Christopher Pritchard in 26:54 mins and Richard Illingworth in 30:52 mins. In Ireland, Ann Green ran Letterkenny parkrun in 29:31 mins.
There were 3 Thornbury men under 20 mins on Severn Bridge parkrun and they all recorded their best times on this course. Adam Frontczak ran 19:31 mins, followed by David Beard 19:44 mins and Paul Saville in his 281st parkrun in 19:57 mins. Paul Thomas was only a short distance behind in 20:06 mins, followed by Reuban Williams 26:21 mins, Woody Williams 35:11 mins and Jo Williams 35:23 mins.
