TRC Virtual Club Night 14/05/20

The Government have relaxed some of the rules about ‘going out’ although things are quite ambiguous and seem to be left up to your own interpretation. There has been no change in the official advice from England Athletics – EA have cancelled all activities until 31st May and all Competition until the end of June.

The latest statement by the CEO of England Athletics is being sent as a separate e-mail as it is quite long and to keep it separate from the day to day stuff.

What is clear is that all local and national events are cancelled and there is no sign of when we might get back to racing. We can’t meet or go for a run as a Group and the Leisure Centre is still closed until further notice.

Apparently, the official line is that you can now go for a run with one other person as long as you stay 2 metres apart and shout! And you can go open water swimming if you like cold water. (The Trench is open but Cromhall Quarry is still closed)

4. As of today we still have made no decision on the Thornbury 10k scheduled for Thursday 16th July. Although it looks highly unlikely we will be able to hold the event in July we will hold off making a formal announcement for another 3-4 weeks and see if any of the guidance is changing.

Liam Jones

Hi

Some you may already be aware, but one of our members, Liam Jones died on the 13th of April.   He was a young man of 33 and struggled with mental illness for many years. From talking to him, I think he found running beneficial to his mental health and was always a strong supporter of others in the club, sometimes cheering them on in races. He also took part in many races and helped in our own races, becoming a ‘master of parking’ !  In more recent months he hadn’t been active in the club and according to the justgiving webpage detailing his death, was struggling with alcohol addiction.

His mother has set up a justgiving webpage in support of calm, an organisation trying to raise awareness of suicides in men. If you do wish to support this cause please go to here

On behalf of the running club, I will send his mother a card with our condolences and we will also as a club be making a donation to the justgiving appeal.

Jim

England Athletics Statement 29 April 2020

Suspension of athletics competition by England Athletics has been extended to 30 June 2020.

Following previous EA statements on 17 March and 24 March, England Athletics, in collaboration with the other Home Country Athletics Federations and UKA, can confirm that the suspension period relating specifically to athletics competition has been extended until at least the 30 June 2020.

The bar on other communal athletics activities is still in force until May 31st, but it could well be extended depending on Government instructions or advice. May 7th (the date of announcements on the Government’s next phase of lockdown decisions) could be a crucial date.

Note: Bristol 10k has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled this year.

Keep safe

Arthur Renshaw

TRC Virtual Club Night 30/04/20

Hi All,

We last had a proper Thursday night run on 12th March which is now 7 weeks ago. I trust everyone is finding new ways to keep up their running fitness and fortunately the weather has certainly helped over the past few weeks. – keeping the footpaths around Thornbury nice and dry.

There has been no change in the official advice either from the Government or from England Athletics – EA have cancelled all activities until 31st May.

A big shout out to Emma and Chris Pritchard on the birth of their daughter Grace on 21 April. Both Emma and Grace are doing well (see Chris’s Facebook post for a picture of Grace wearing a TRC top!)

Coming up next week two longstanding Members also reach a new milestone – 70 years old!
Anne Palmer on 4th May and Chris Foley on 6th May. Congratulations to both who are still running so a bottle of Champagne is waiting for you when we finally get back to something like normal.

Those on the Club’s Facebook page will have been entertained by Judy Mills nominating a different song for each day which includes some surprising choices; and photos of your London Marathon experiences including a black and white photo of John Grimsey from 1988 looking like a boy.

• TRC Virtual Run Series – April Challenge
Don’t forget to get your times to Kevin before Thursday 30th April.
Kevin will try and do a live Facebook stream at 7:00pm on Thursday 7th May to announce the winners, and announce the May challenge.

• England Athletics Membership 20/21
Thanks to Dave Beard and Mike B all those of you who wanted EA Membership for 20/21 have had their Membership paid up front by the Club (1 April – 31 March 2021) When we come to renew your Club Membership in October we will be seeking for you to pay the subsidised £10 back to the Club.

If there is any change to the official position or we have any news for you we will post the details on here.

Look after yourselves and keep safe.
Arthur Renshaw,

TRC NEWS 09/04/20

There has been no change to the official position this week. England Athletics have cancelled all activities until 31st May.

Kevin Wood reports on a good take up of his April Virtual Challenge…..

CLUB VIRTUAL RUN SERIES APRIL CHALLENGE..
Excellent to see so many of you have taken up the virtual challenge and doing great runs over the weekend. I have different challenges already planned for May, June and July! The more people who do the April challenge the easier this will be, as April will be the baseline.

Answers to a few of the questions:

1. Can I pick a route which is all downhill?
The route is up to you, if you live on top of a hill, go for it! For those choosing downhill routes in April … beware of future challenges!

2. What should I use for timing?
Use whatever you have, I will accept timing from whatever device you use. If you have several devices I will accept whichever gives the best result (e.g. Garmin and Strava seem to disagree on distance). This is run on an honesty basis. I don’t want to receive lots of screen shots to check. I may just ask a few random, or winners, for “proof”, but not everyone.

3. Can I amend my results once submitted?
Once submitted you cannot change. So if you run faster after submitting, well done!

4. When will I know the results?
Will try and do a live Facebook stream at 7:00pm on Thursday 7th May to announce the winners, and announce the May challenge.

5. Is there a league table?
No. To keep everyone motivated there will be no stats until the results are announced.

6. When should I submit my times?
Whenever you like before the close date. But no changes once submitted.

Looking forward to seeing your times…

TRC NEWS 02/04/20

There has been no change to the official position this week. England Athletics have cancelled all activities until 31st May.

As mentioned last week we have not made a decision on the Thornbury 10k as yet. We will be looking at the official advice at the time and be making a decision sometime in early May,

The good news is that Pete Mainstone has finally been allowed out of hospital and he is now back home recovering. I’m sure we all send him our best wishes for a speedy recovery.

As you probably saw in last weeks note we have extended your Club Membership to 1st October at no charge. If you set-up a Standing Order to pay your Membership on or around 1st April please can you cancel it. Anybody who has already renewed their Membership will get a full refund in due course.

If there is any change to the official position or we have any news for you we will post the details on here.

Look after yourselves and keep safe.
Arthur Renshaw,
