Thornbury Running Club’s Neil Roff ran the marathon at the Bath Run Festival on 22nd July. The festival catered for different abilities with 5k, 10k and half marathon races. For seasoned long-distance runners like Neil and the odd brave soul wanting to challenge themselves, the longest event on offer was the 26.2 mile marathon. As well as the heat to contend with, the course had over 1000m of ascent around the hilly roads of Bathampton and Bath Easton. Neil completed the race in a solid 5 hours 28:05 mins in 29th place.
David and Anne Palmer are some of Thornbury Running Club’s most fervent parkrun supporters. Between them they have racked up 192 runs and volunteered on 69 occasions across the UK. This week they were up north in Warrington and David was fastest finisher in the 70+ age category in 26:44 mins and Anne ran 33:07 mins.
At Thornbury parkrun, Paul Harrod dipped under 20 mins again in 19:58 mins and was the second finisher overall. Paul Thomas was the next TRC runner in 23:15 mins, Jonathan Greenwood set a new PB in 23:35 mins, Brian Godsman knocked almost 2 minutes of his previous fastest time in 24:16 mins, followed by Mike Bennewitz 24:49 mins, High McPherson with a new PB of 24:51 mins, Peter Blenkiron 27:17 mins, Malcolm Carr 27:33 mins and Nigel Hale 30:19 mins.
Kevin Wood ran 22:19 at Chipping Sodbury and was the fastest runner in the 60+ age category and Andrew Darton ran 22:25 mins at Tamar Trails parkrun on the Devon Cornwall border.
And from Jo Plumbley..
I did the ‘Outlaw’ long distance triathlon in Nottingham this weekend.
My overall time was 12 hours 42 mins despite 2 punctures
Swin was 1hr 18 (2.4 miles) ), bike 7hrs 6mins (might check that one) (112 miles) and run was 4hours 7 mins (26.2 miles – was pleased with the run at least)
It was pretty flat but the winds on the bike were super tough
