Triathlon Activities

Thornbury Running Club (TRC) has a lively tri-section which is affiliated to the British Triathlon Federation. We meet regularly to discuss new ideas and we get together for training sessions (see below).

Cycling

We organise long weekend rides during the winter, shorter chain-gang sessions during the spring, plus (occasional) track sessions at Newport Velodrome. Members get together for Audax events and Sportives. Many TRC triathletes use the coached spinning sessions at Thornbury Leisure Centre. The Severn Road Club’s Evening 10 time trials at Olveston Sports Club are popular during the spring and summer.

TRC cyclists meet most Sundays at the Anchor, Gloucester Road, 8am, for long rides (which need some endurance and experience). Details are sent out by Richard Illingworth – contact him at rkillingworth@blueyonder.co.uk if you’d like to be included on the email list.

Swimming

Many TRC triathletes use the coached swim sessions at Thornbury and Bradley Stoke Leisure Centres.

In the spring and summer, there are nearby open-water training venues at Cromhall Quarry (deep water!) and Trench Lane, Bradley Stoke (fairly shallow).

Running

At TRC’s club night on Thursday, based in the Filmore Suite in Thornbury Leisure Centre members can choose between going out on a run with one of our four pace groups, or a coached interval session. Every Tuesday there are TRC track sessions at the Kip Keino Athletic Stadium at Bristol Academy of Sport, Stoke Gifford, start 6.30pm, cost £1 per session. On Sunday mornings we meet for long runs at 8.30am in the small car park opposite The Castle School.

Target races

Thornbury triathletes often plan club outings to various events. Please speak to the triathletes on Thursday club nights for details.
