DON’T GO TO SCHOOL - our new meeting place is TURNBERRIES

Happy New Year to you all - and a happy 25th birthday to Thornbury Running Club. A quarter of a century after its formation, the club is going from strength to strength, and this year we aim to build up somereal team spirit. The club isentering races throughout the year – the list is attached –which I hope will lead to our most successful year yet. The support of all members, no matter what standard, will be vital.
Our first task is to finish the cross country season with as much enthusiasm as we started. Then, in April, it’s over the bridge for a mob match against Chepstow Harriers ...which we MUST WIN!!
If you would like to be involved in running TRC, speak to the Chair Judy Mills, or Secretary Gareth Thomas. The AGM is in February 2010 and committee nominations are now needed – new faces are ALWAYS welcome.

SUNDAY CYCLE - Rich Phillips and Sandra Webber will be taking a steady 30-miler on Sunday 10th. It will be suitable for first- timers. PRATTLE & RUN, message from editor Judy Mills: January 21 is the date by which I would like all articles for the next Prattle and Run. This may be the penultimate edition in its present form. Why? Read the December edition (currently on line) to find out!

TRC’S RIVERBANK ROLLICK- Sunday 17th January.Race Director Dave Andrews now has enough helpers, so if you’re not marshalling, you can run! Entry form on TRC website.

TRC AQUATHLON- Sun March 14th at Bradley Stoke. Entry form on website
Message from Race director Sandra Webber: We need real focus now as the event is less than 3 months away. Entries are coming in for both races (500m/5k and 1,000m/10k) so let’s hope these continue. It would be nice to increase the numbers slightly to 150 this year.
We need club members to promote the race and to volunteer for marshalling. After Dave Andrews has completed the Rollick I am going to be asking people to sign up to help out.
We haven't managed to secure a main sponsor for the pool costs so this will need to be covered by the entry fees. However, Easy Runner have kindly agreed to provide the t-shirts so this is fantastic news as it takes some of the pressure off financially.
The Kudos team spent over 4 months going out to a lot of organisations for sponsorship, but funds are tight and although a lot of people said come back and talk next year, no one came up with the £560 pool cost!
Despite this, with tight cost control and high entry levels we should be able to put on a great event.
As the event gets closer please be prepared to help out.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Kymin Fell Race, Saturday Jan 9th in Monmouth
Message from Wilf Burke: The Kymin race is one of the closest fell races to Thornbury and at just under 4 miles with 1150ft of climb it is a good opportunity for newcomers wanting an introduction to a slightly different branch of the sport - Think of the middle section of the Tintern Trot (without the flat sections at the start and the end) extend it to about four miles and that is what to expect.
Entry on the day is £3 and this is a luxurious race with changing rooms and even showers, in the Monmouth Boys School sports centre (Grid Ref SO 513127). Start time is 2.00pm. I intend going from Bristol and could also meet anyone at the Bridge to lift share - contact 0117 9509235 or wilfburke@hotmail.comif you are interested or have questions.
Moorland Multi-Terrain 10km Click the link below for details of an exciting new 10km race, The Moorland Multi-Terrain, being held at Henbury 24th January.

Cycling in the Pyrennes Martyn Green is planning a cycling trip in the Pyrennes this September: Read on if you’re interested in joining him:
Some friends and I are planning to go out to the Pyrenees in Sept 2010 to do a Pyrenean Traverse. It's a ride from Hendaye to Cerbere taking in some of the classic Tour climbs such as the Tourmalet, Aubisque and the Marie-Blanque. I did it last year and enjoyed it so much I want to go again. We plan to ride again with an organised group called Pyrenees Multisport who are a small family run organisation. They carry all the kit, organise all the hotels and all you need to do is ride your best bike.
The website says their current dates are full but if I can get a minimum group of 8 together Ian will run a tour just for us. I have 4-5 already. It is 8 days away in total and provisionally will be 4th-11th Sept. This is a great time to go as the French are back at work so the roads are quiet but the weather is still good. There are lots of mountains out there so we can always add some extra on to each day for anyone who likes riding!
At the moment I am just seeing who is interested and can get a pass-out. Total cost including all flights, meals etc is about £900. It's not a race, more of a long leisurely sportive with stunning scenery. If you want more info please drop me a line at martyn@mgreen97.wanadoo.co.uk
