I’m sure those that did Jim’s Strava session enjoyed their run last Thursday so here is the detail of Jim’s Pub Run scheduled for next Thursday13th April
Jim’s Pub Run (crawl) Treasure Hunt
You need to think about teams of 3-5 people – we will help make teams on the night, they need a team name and need to bring something like a camera phone to take pictures on the night to show they have been to each pub.
In teams of 3 or 4 or 5, you choose your own routes to get to as many pubs as possible to pick up points. Prizes will be given for the following categories
- Team with most points in total
- Most points Under 35s team (at least 2 people under 35 to be eligible – Male or Female or Mixed teams)
- Most points 35-50s teams (at least 2 people aged 35-50 to be eligible – Male or Female or Mixed teams)
- Most points 50plus (at least 2 people over 50 to be eligible – Male or Female or Mixed teams)
- Most points Walking group (so it would be good to have more than one group so you can challenge each other)
So chat with your friends and think about your teams and team names. We will no doubt have to form teams on the night too, and if people are new and don’t know lots of people to be in a team with, I’ll make sure you get in a team with people who know the area and are suitably paced for you.
I’ve allotted 75 minutes for the treasure hunt from 7:15 to 8:30. So we need to be quick with notices and a warm up.
The aim is to get as many points in the time allowed. You can run on road or off road if you think that will help.
You must take a photo of all of your team outside each pub for verification purposes (selfies or one can hold the camera), so you need to have one camera phone (or camera – preferably not print or slide) per team.
Walking group get 2 points for each town centre pub.
You might want to make sure at least one person in your group has a head torch.
Entries returning to the club meeting room after 8:30 will not count.
No running down Thornbury Hill. You can walk but this will take more time. I will be checking this section regularly, so if you are caught running down hill, you will be disqualified.
Pubs and points.
Town Centre pubs, each worth 1 point (2 for walking groups) – Swan; White Lion; Wheatsheaf; Malthouse; Hawkes House; Royal George.
2 point pubs – Black Horse (Gillingstool Road); Ship Inn (Alveston – top of Thornbury Hill); Cross Hands (Alveston – Down Road).
3 Point pubs – The Anchor (Gloucester Road, Morton); Mason’s Arms (Up on A38 towards Bristol)
4 Point pubs – The Fox Inn (The Inner Down, Old Down)
5 Point pubs – The White Horse (Buckover – Also on A38 but towards Gloucester)
Hints and tips
There are a maximum of 28 points on offer, for which you would need to run 10 miles in 75 minutes (7:30 min/mile pace). Totally achievable if you have extra fast legs, although you need to factor in some photo time.
But, get the timing wrong and over shoot trying to get one too many high value pub and come in late, and it will all be for nothing.
